The Culver Academies is a group of private, non-denominational, boarding institutions located in 1300 Academy Road, Culver, Indiana, United States.
Collectively known as Culver Academies, it consists of Culver Military Academy (CMA), a college-preparatory military school for boys, Culver Girls Academy (CGA), a college-preparatory school for girls, and Culver Summer Schools and Camps (CSSC), a summer camp where over 1,350 young people from around the world develop positive self-esteem through accomplishment and self discipline.
Culver Academies traces its history way back in 1894, when Culver Military Academy was founded by Henry Harrison Culver for the purpose of “thoroughly preparing young men for the best colleges, scientific schools and businesses of America”. In 1896, a fire at Missouri Military Academy brought about its consolidation with Culver Military Academy, and with it came Missouri's headmaster, Col. Alexander Fleet, under whose guidance the academy made rapid progress. In 1902, the summer camp component was added for young boys and girls where they can learn leadership skills that improve personal confidence. In 1971, the Culver Girls Academy branch was founded to facilitate the training and education of young girls. With over 785 students and a total campus of more than 1,800 acres (7.3 km2) and endowment of over $380 million, Culver is one of the largest and most prominent boarding schools in the United States.
Both Culver Military Academy and Culver Girls Academy enjoy long history of success in various sports programs. The boys’ lacrosse team has won in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2007, and 2008 while the girls’ team has won in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008. In addition, Culver has recently had state champions in golf, wrestling, cross country, and track, as well as the state softball player of the year. The girls’ soccer team is ranked 5th in the state according to ESPN, and made it to the State Finals in 2008.
