St. John's Military School is a private, Christian college-preparatory military school located in Salina, Kansas, United States. It was founded in 1887 by Reverend Elisha Smith Thomas and a group of prominent Salina businessmen for the purpose of giving Christian education with military structure and training for young boys living in the area.
St. John's Military School offers structured learning environment, strong accredited curriculum and passionate teaching methods to ensure that each cadet is thoroughly prepared for college. Maintaining high grades in academics is the pinnacle of every cadet's experience with St. John's Military School, and in order to achieve that, the school has several programs designed to aid struggling students. For example, in core classes like reading and math, struggling students are identified and enrolled in an additional applied course. In these subjects, Double-Dose classes, aligned with the core class, provide repetition and reinforcement in order for the student to have a greater opportunity to grasp the concepts. The Double-Dose classes are very small and allow for one-on-one time with the teacher.
As a military school, JROTC is an internal part of the curriculum and students are required to participate in the program. Through the program, many of the life skills are learned. Aside from leadership, other traits necessary for mental development are learned, these includes dependability, courtesy, orderliness, promptness, personal responsibility, and respect and empathy for others.
