New Jersey
Newark, New Jersey at night
New Jersey is the 3rd state of the United States of America. It is located in the east coast of the United States, in the Middle Atlantic region recognized as one of the more affluent regions of the country. Along with nine other states, New Jersey comprises the Northeastern United States. The state is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, by Pennsylvania across the Delaware River to the west, New York to the north and Delaware across Delaware Bay to the south. As with many other states in the region, New Jersey has a humid continental climate, with slightly cooler temperatures due to its higher elevation.
The first Europeans to settle into New Jersey were the Dutch who founded New Netherland in the 17th century. In 1664, the entire region was claimed by the British following a takeover. A century later, the territory became one of the original thirteen colonies to revolt against British crown and precipitated the American Revolution in the 18th century. On December 18, 1787, New Jersey became the 3rd state to ratify the Constitution.
Military Education in New Jersey
Historically, New Jersey had a significant role in all major wars the United States had participated into. During the American Revolution, the state is referred to as “The Crossroads of the Revolution” due to its strategic logistics importance, and several pivotal battles took place in the state. At the American civil war, although no major battles took place within the state, New Jersey had enlisted over 80,000 in the Northern army to defeat the Southern Confederacy. Through both World Wars, New Jersey location in the east coast and its well developed naval construction yard made it the center for naval war production, especially in the construction of battleships, cruisers, and destroyers that were used extensively in both world wars.
With such rich military history and tradition, New Jersey is a natural location for military educational programs. The several major military installations in the state, which includes Fort Dix of the US Air Force, McGuire Air Force Base, and the Naval Weapons Stations Earle at Colts Neck, also serves as major influences for military education in the state.
