San Marcos Baptist Academy is a private, coeducational, non-denominational Christian college-preparatory military school located in 2801 Ranch Road 12, San Marcos, Texas, United States. The school traces its origins in 1905, when the citizens of San Marcos, led by James Milton Carroll, an American Baptist pastor and head of the Southwest Texas Baptist Conference, campaigned to have a Baptist school in the southwestern area of the state. With $25,000 funds raised by the citizens, San Marcos Baptist Academy was established in 1907. In 1917, with the onset of World War I, the United States government granted the academy a junior unit of the Reserve Officer Training Corps and since then, all male students have served in the corps of cadets, and those in grades nine through twelve are formally enrolled in the Army JROTC program.

As a college preparatory school, San Marcos Baptist Academy offers a strong learning environment and a personalized mode of instruction to meet the needs of each student. Classes are small in size, with an average of 12 students per class, and a teacher to student ratio of 1:9. The academy also provides a number of special services and programs designed to meet the individual needs of each student, such as those with learning differences may qualify for placement in the Learning Skills Program, which offers one-on-one or group tutoring, re-teaching of subject material, verbalized testing, project assistance, and organizational skills instruction.

San Marcos Baptist Academy features methods to update parents on their children’s progress. Report cards are mailed out every 3-4 weeks to keep parents apprised of student performance. Alternately, parents may go online to access the students’ grades through Gradespeed, the school’s online gradebook. By request, parents may also opt to receive a daily email that lists all of their students’ homework assignments.

San Marcos Academy is non-denominational Christian school, such that it doesn’t discriminate on the basis of faith, or race, national or ethnic origins. However, San Marcos Baptist Academy is a Christian school, and strives to educate young men and women within a nurturing community based upon Christian values.

San Marcos Academy is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Texas Education Agency, and the accrediting commission of the Texas Association of Baptist Schools. The school is also a member of the Texas Association of Private Schools. San Marcos Academy is governed by a fifteen-member Board of Trustees selected by the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
