TMI — The Episcopal School of Texas is a private, Christian, coeducational college-preparatory school located 20955 West Tejas Trail, San Antonio, Texas, United States.

The school traces its roots way back in the 1890s, when San Antonio lie on the edge of the American Old West, and Reverend Steptoe Johnston, the first Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese in the southwestern United States, used to travel about his diocese by stagecoach as there were not yet any railways. In such an environment, Bishop Johnston saw the need for a school that would provide basic education to the children in the area. With just six teachers and twelve students, the school started as the West Texas School for Boys in 1893, largely funded by donations from wealthy residents of the eastern seaboard, many of whom had been inspired by speeches Johnston had given on the importance of academic and moral education for all young men.

By the 1930s, the school was considered by some to be the finest secondary school in the State of Texas. The school opened its doors not only for young men seeking priesthood, but also opened its doors to those who wish Christian education that would enable them to go on to careers in the civil service or in the officer corps of the United States Army. The JROTC program became optional for girls since their admission in 1972, and for boys since 1974. In 2005, the school changed its name to TMI — The Episcopal School of Texas, full name Texas Military Institute.

As a college-preparatory school, TMI offers students Christian education in small classroom settings that allow a great deal of interaction among students and teachers. Class sizes, by design, are small, averaging around twelve students per class with an overall teacher to student ratio of 1:8.

TMI is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest and is also a member of the National Association of Independent Schools, the Association of Boarding Schools, the National Association of Episcopal Schools, and the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools.
