The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS), commonly referred to as Sandhurst, is the initial officer training school for prospective cadets of the British Army. It is one of the four officer training schools in the United Kingdom.
The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is located in College Town in the civil parish of Sandhurst, after which the Academy is named. The institution was established in 1802 as the Royal Military College, which during World War 2, became the home of 161 Infantry Officer Cadet Training Unit (RMC). In 1942, Sandhurst was used as a Royal Armoured Corps Training Unit OCTU when the 61 Infantry Officer Cadet Training Unit of RMC moved to Mons Barracks, Aldershot. In 1947, the institution became Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as a result of the merger between the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich and the Royal Military College. When Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot closed in 1972, Sandhurst became the sole institution for initial officer training of the British Army.
