Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College (WDSFC), also Welbeck DSFC or simply Welbeck College, is a sixth form college in located in Woodhouse, Loughborough, Leicestershire, England. A sixth form college in the English education systems is an educational institution where 16 to 18 years old students typically study for advanced school-level qualifications, such as A-levels, or school-level qualifications such as General Certificate of Education.
Admission into Welbeck does not differ much from most American institution, such that applicants are sponsored by the elements of the British Armed Forces or the MOD Civil Service, selected by their potential as an officer candidate or technical civil servant.
Candidates for the British Army make up the bulk of the Welbeck population, whom are required to pass the Army Officer Selection Board (or A.O.S.B.). They can take any of the technical roles available: Royal Signals, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Royal Engineers or the Royal Logistic Corps. After graduating the cadets proceed to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst for initial officer training.
Similarly, candidates of the Royal Air Force are required to undergo selection at RAF College Cranwell Officer and Aircrew Selection Centre. They can choose to enter either as Engineer Officers or as Logistics Officers. After graduating, they will proceed to the RAF College Cranwell for initial officer training.
Candidates for the Royal Navy are required to pass the Admiralty Interview Board; after which they can opt to join into the Engineer branch specializing in Weapon Systems, Marine Systems or Aviation. After graduating they will enter Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth for initial officer training.
